Arriving upon the sacred shores of Mama Kauai in the middle of a hot and steamy August of 2000 slowed me down…way down. The air felt heavy, oppressive, yet I deeply wanted to be here. Nonetheless, I had grown accustomed to the cool mountain air of Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii where I had resided for 7 years. Now I was in transition; after awhile I realised that what I was feeling was more a response to my inner landscape, the inner climate, rather than the outer temperature. The truth was that Mama Kauai was requiring me to do “due diligence”… to do what was right to clear, lighten, and elevate my vibration.
I wrote this poem in response to what was emerging and as an answer to the sacred call to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. I learned quickly that honesty with the self will clean the heart and the pain, in order for soul wisdom to shine through.
“Decorated”
Decorated by old emotions,
An outdated style of “rustic resentment”.
Old emotions draped low,
Cut on the bias of self-centered living.
No possibility of seeing another point of view.
Newness entered slowly
Through the muted glass.
Treasures of beauty and peace hovered patiently,
Waiting to be revealed to the parched Soul.
Will I hear You?
Will I see You as You are
See Myself Truly
While immersed in clouds of delusions
Must I keep coming up with the same conclusion
About myself and others…When
Seeing an honest glimpse
Through Your eyes
Can change everything?
The gentle rain softens and cleanses.

Fluidity enters the Heart.
Sorrow is washed away, restoring clarity.
It is a New Day
Holding a Promise of Tomorrow.
Kauai, 2000
