Most of us would agree that happiness and success are deeply interconnected. In truth, they have a common denominator; neither can be pursued.
In the practice of soul consciousness, the thought emerges that the feelings of having attained both success and happiness are the result of being dedicated to something greater than the physical self.
Spiritually speaking, the situations that come our way in life are due to our past actions; therefore, they are often scripted differently than what we anticipated or desired, based on our present goals. This contributes greatly to the roots of human discontent. When situations unfold randomly or automatically, not complying with our wishes or desires, this can be the cause of adverse feelings and reactions. However, in the midst of such circumstances, creating the awareness that we have a choice to create something beautiful, anyway, helps build the inner world of the mind, and engenders contentment in life. With this attitude and awareness, it becomes possible to embrace the joy of growing in every moment.
We have a choice to achieve happiness by achieving control over the contents of our own consciousness, not by being in control of situations or other people.
In today’s world, wealth, status, and power have become important symbols of happiness. They can be genuine blessings, if they bring joy. It is important to understand how to consciously make efforts towards the attainment of these goals, while staying happy and content in the present moment.
Materialistic success is only one dimension of life; there are many other dimensions that bring joy and satisfaction. This awareness will free you from being addicted to the attention and approval of others that often comes along with being successful on a materialistic level.
In order to overcome the stress and demands of contemporary life, it is important to know and experience your original, innate virtue of happiness. Do this by defining what is important to you and what isn’t. Then enjoyment and purpose is found in action, irrespective of its social relevance and regardless of external circumstances. This results in being rewarded by an internal sense of happiness and achievement.
Simplicity is the cornerstone of happiness.
The one who is simple sees through the complications of situations and people. She has the ability to pick out what is useful and worthy from the expansion of all that is available. A simple person’s words and actions are able to spread happiness to those around her.
