7 Ways to Deepen Your Happiness and Joy

cropped-rainbow-over-anini-beach.jpgThese inspirations are from Inside Out by Dadi Janki:

  1. Begin by looking at your heart to examine its emotional state. Ask your heart what type of feelings do I have stored in it for myself and for others?  What feelings within the heart do I have for the world?  Since “happiness is connected with the heart, and there is a deep connection between the heart, the brain, and vision…whatever is in the heart will also be in my brain, and will show through my eyes. When my heart is filled with happiness, this will be obvious in my vision”…for the “eyes share that happiness…” (p.91/Janki)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Message-de-Dadi-Janki
  2. For happiness to be within, “the heart must first become absolutely clean.  If there’s any kind of thorn stuck in it, some pain from the past, that should finish. Don’t let there be any type of fear or sorrow from anywhere…If I’ve given sorrow to anyone, let me ask for forgiveness in such a way that they are able to forget the sorrow they received from me.”( p.92 Janki)
  3. “What if that forgiveness is not forthcoming, what can I do then? I must check my own feelings.  Am I really feeling that I want forgiveness from that person? Am I feeling love for them? If I am feeling genuine in this, I should first ask God for forgiveness.  Then I can ask that person. The heart has to be so clean, so honest; otherwise, my asking for forgiveness is just another form of taking. There shouldn’t be ay kind of impatience. My feelings have to be filled with compassion, honest, and love…Then the other person will feel these qualities reaching them, as a gift, and they will accept that you are sincere in regretting what you had one and are wanting to make amends. Sometimes, I’m not able to experience those qualities of compassion, honest, and love within towards myself, and so certainly they won’t work for others”…(p.92-93/Dadi Janki                                                                                          power of words
  4. The next step and an amazing “secret is to check for and remove any trace of selfish feeling. Selfishness blocks my own highest nature, and my connection with God. It gives rise to sorrow, worry, or fear within; those negative feelings that destroy my strength and judgment and prevent me from interacting successfully with others. Then, no matter how hard I may try to project positive feelings, that projection will not work. I cannot give out what I don’t have inside.” (p.93/Dadi Janki)
  5.  This step is to realize that there is “no use worrying on behalf of other people.  As you let go of worry, you can be engaged in good works and be able to share good feelings; whereas when one worries, there will definitely be sorrow. Can I have worry and sorrow internally, and still be able to share happiness…?” (p.93/Dadi Janki)
  6.  “For generosity of heart to thrive there must be selflessness and honesty.  The funny thing is, selflessness is the best possible gift for the self! For if I’m selfless in my feelings and motivations, what is there to worry about? I have nothing to lose.
    Red luminous heart
  7. The last step is to remember God out of love and happiness…and you will find that you are connecting to an ocean of love and happiness. You’ll come to realize that this is your own true nature, too. If you continue to do this, no form of sorrow can come to you, because there’s an accumulation of the power of happiness inside.                                                                                                                                                 Understand that this internal happiness really is like an energy. When you practice remembering God, happiness accumulates and there is the power to keep God as your companion. Realize that sorrow weakens and happiness brings courage and faith in the self. Courage and faith in the self will give you the strength to carry on doing good work. If there’s something good to be done,  go for it. And God will enable it to happen…                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        This love connection is not a mysterious thing. If you are a mother, a parent, or a child of a parent, you know how a mother gives love to a child, and a child gives love to the mother. You know that relationship. There isn’t a question of how it happens.  In the same way, just imagine how much love God has for His children. God’s love is wondrous. No one else can have that much love for us. My job is to accept wholeheartedly that this Mother/Father is mine.                                                                                                                                                                                When I say with conviction: “You are my Mother and Father” this One enables me to move along in life. However, remembering God out of sorrow may be a comfort, but it doesn’t give strength or power. Also, if you are telling God: You are mine and I belong to You, but your heart is drawn to another human being, then God sees this as a lack of honesty. It is just as if a husband sees that although his wife is living with him, she has love for another man, his heart would be filled with so much sorrow. It’s not that God would feel sorrow, but there would be a difference in the love that would reach you  If you are true rather in your love towards Him, nobody can give the love that God gives. God cares so much.      Let in the Light~Golden                                                                                                                                    So, have that much love for God. Open your heart to the One, and make that One your Mother, Father, Friend, Beloved, your everything. When there is this experience, you will remain immensely happy and the soul will sing a joyous song!” (p96-97/Dadi Janki)  Featured Image -- 6281

Start by being cool, introverted, and very cautious.

Message to self on January 19, 2015

It is a wonder that when I maintain a changeless sense of who I am, real change takes place within and without, in ease and grace!

It was during this time of blessings, noted, that a piece called:  ‘And the Mountain said Yes’ came through.  It is shared on another page of this blog of spiritual mementos.  Enjoy,  be nourished, and remember your blessings!!!

Self-Respect gains Respect from Others and Dispels Darkness

I am a child of GodYour spiritual journey begins with ‘Who am I?’ and ends with ‘Who am I’?   Self-knowledge, self-reflection, and self-respect will reveal your innate power and unique role in the drama of life.

To give respect to the Self, instead of demanding respect from others has great benefits.   As  self-respect increases, the soul becomes humble and fulfilled. Being in self-respect brings respect from others easily and continually.

Renouncing the desires of I, me, and mine cools the ego down.  Work on the ego allows one to experience progress in meditation and other spiritual work.  Controlling negative and useless thoughts about yourself and others is easier when you think elevated and positive thoughts about the Self.  This is the opposite of arrogance; this has to do with acknowledging the True Self.

Self-respect dispels consciousness of the self as a limited, temporary body.  Self-respect is the foundation for the state of soul-consciousness.  Each and every thought of respect  about our true and eternal nature creates energy.   Likewise wasteful thoughts reduce power and vitality.

Start by creating a list of respectful  thoughts you have for your Self.  Thoughts such as these will build inner stability as you face adverse situations.  They will keep you in a good stage of soul-consciousness and in the company of the Highest on High who wishes only the best for you.

Here is a starter list to get you moving in the right direction.

  1.   I am a great soul.  It is true that I’m great.  Feel it and accept it with deep     realization.
  2.  I am a destroyer of obstacles.  My Divine Parent is always with me.  I am under the Canopy of Protection.  I destroy obstacles for myself and others.
  3.  My original and eternal state is of  sovereignty of the soul over the mind and body.
  4.  I am a pure soul and “so and so” is also a pure soul.
  5.  My true nature is of peace.  When I am connected to peace, I give peace to all souls through the freedom of my mind.
  6. On the basis of self-respect, I charge up the atmosphere around me, including my home, my meditation area, and wherever I am present in the world.
  7. I am a powerful soul, unlimited and blissful.
  8. I am a beloved child of God.

Give yourself the gift of Self-Respect every day.  It is especially powerful, during the first ten minutes of your day to reflect on one of these points.  This practice can be repeated for the last ten minutes of your day before sleeping.  Also imbibe a powerful point of self-respect while eating and drinking.  Work this practice into the things you do everyday for the sustenance of your body.  You will be also sustaining the energy of your soul.

You are a blessed soul.  Blessed by spiritual knowledge, blessed by the Divine Director of this play, and blessed by every positive thought you choose.  Choose well, live well, and progress.

And the mountain said YES.

Sitting on the bluff, being blessed by the view of  Hanalei Bay and the breath-filling vista of the mountain range (the Na Pali) which extends all the way to Mt. Makana, (“Hollywood’s Bali Hai)  at the “end of the road”, at least 15 miles from here.

Gently, slowly my head turned away, as if by a source other than my own. From the ocean~my gaze was  pulled towards the lioness in the mountain of  this magnificent mountain range behind my home.  Mamalahoa, who stands at attention on the North Shore of Kauai,  close guardian of my hale (home) had magnetized my attention.

My eyes were transfixed upon Mamalahoa when I heard these words, so clearly in my head, “My beloved, you are protected.”  Inside I jumped as I looked even deeper at the mountain and said out loud: “are you talking to me!!!”, in a slight case of shock.    Again the same voice said, “Bring the children here”.

I gasped, swallowed hard, knowing exactly what the mountain meant.

“You can do it”, said another voice.  “Take back your power now.  It is now or never.  This is a magical opportunity to be well…happy, contented and in service.”  I felt as if the Highest on High was now directing my thoughts as I heard:

Be Mine in Your Mind, Remember Me Alone

Manmanabhav

Tell them the mantra that disciplines the mind.

Go for it. You can do it.

I burped deep in the throat and said “excuse me” ever so politely.  Then a flood of resistance came up…the ego shuddered and said: Go away from here!  Cleary this was the voice of the frightened ego, overriding me, the soul!

Quietly shocked, I realized how much I wanted to surrender, to give up the ego that blocks the passage of breath (‘ha’ in Hawaiian), to give up the ego that silences the quest for authenticity, truth, magnitude, to give up the ego that dances with fear!

I wanted so deeply to come home to myself.

  Then I heard another message:

” Let it Be.  Be Your Self and Be Free.  “You can do it,”  said the mountain, my friend in need.  Yes, my friend, my neighbor, my beloved, my strength, my power personified in 3-D through a mystical sound system.

“Go within and find your inner mountain of Truth and Stability; the place that spurs you on to take the next step even in the face of fear and loathing. Go Beyond Everything and Come Back Clean. Take Others with You…Give them a chance, an opportunity,to rise up with the Father.  Don’t wait, Don’t hesitate.”

Such was the birthing of “Sunset Meditations on the Bluff” back in May of 2015.  An auspicious beginning which has attracted tourists and locals alike, both young and old to sit on the bluff, close to our mountain ally and remember who they are.

Seekers of themselves, of a Higher Power, of Beauty, of Peace, of True Love, of Truth.  This is the gift, the Gift of Mamalahoa, the one who believes in me so deeply, the one who waits patiently for humankind to wake up, the one who encourages us with her beauty and power to live up to our own true infinite worth.

Whenever your journey leads you to this precious Island~ Island of the Golden Light~ Kauai, and to her  magnificent mountain ranges of the north, be sure to listen for the message that will bring you home to your Self.

And if you happen to see our meditation flyers on the bulletin boards around the island, at the health food store in Kilauea and the  yoga studios of Hanalei that mystically pull at your heart strings, then give a call to Shivalaya and join us in meditation every Friday and Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Treehouse Sanctuary sitting directly across from beautiful Mamalahoa on one side and Hanalei Bay on the other side.

Come for a deepening into your own truth, a deepening into peace, and an opening into a self-respect that comes purely from the inside.  Allow these virtues and qualities to become unshakeable within you~like the mountains who embody stabiity and a royalty all their own.

To My Beloved of Another Time~Another Age~

This was originally written as a “Wedding Blessing” to a charming and talented young couple on 10/10/04.

As I rediscover this blessing, which  was written , almost 10 years ago, I recognise within it,  a blessing to my beloved of another age, an age which is forthcoming, a time of peace, of happiness, and of true love.

The original Wedding Blessing has been almost totally revised and has emerged as something incredibly lovely.

The last 8 words remain the same in both blessings; parts of the original blessing to that young couple are contained in this new version.

A Blessing for “US”

This is my  wish for you, my darling, for our life together, for our wedded bliss, for the “us” which has already been, and which will be once again and again, eternally.

I wish us mornings bathed in sunlight, warmed by our voices speaking of eternity.

I wish us a pristine union of ease and grace, of our universes happily coalescing.

I wish you the joy, again and again, of the pilgrimage that brought us the reward of togetherness in this Promised Land once again.

I wish you the feeling of Gratitude, overflowing everywhere, nourishing and awakening all of life.

I wish you a compassionate embrace of past, present, and future.

I wish you Love’s Dominion bonded to the Soul of God,  in total  completeness that you may know at once the reverence of  joy and the victory of breaking new ground into the Holy Age.

How Important is Honesty to You?

Who in this wide world is Dadi Janki?  And why should I know about her?

Dadi-Ja

Dadi Janki is a 103 year old phenomenon who has been certified by many scientific tests to have the most stable mind in the world.  OKAY, you may be muttering.  To what does she attribute this wonderful state of being?  Is this just a rare case of genetics, or is this state achievable through practice?

Dadi makes no bones about it; she attributes her stable mind , hence her unshakeability to her lifelong study and practice of Raja Yoga, the yoga of the mind, the union of the individual soul with the Supreme Soul.

Currently, she is the head of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in Rajasthan, India where Raja Yoga is taught and practiced.  Essentially this practice is shared freely, i.e. without a price tag. This is truly education for the good of humanity and for the well-being of civilization and the very planet, itself.  For as human beings change and elevate, their influence will transform the sorry conditions that presently exist upon our Mother Earth.

Another proponent of Dadi Janki, and there are many, has this to say about her:

“This woman is as deep , wise, and egoless as it gets.  She adheres to no formal religion, dogma, or sect.  What she teaches is a method to open the heart and detach the mind-which to me is what true spirituality is about”.  Ruby Wax

Message-de-Dadi-Janki

Last year on my annual journey to the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University, I was incredibly blessed to have Dadi sit and hold my hand for nearly thirty minutes.  On the drive up the mountain to Mt. Abu from Amnehabhad, the Indian women, whom I was sharing a taxi with, announced that we were going to stop and visit with Dadi!  Such a surprise; such fortune!!

As we opened the door to Dadi’s little receiving room, it was packed with souls already.  I looked past everyone, my eyes magnetized to Dadi’s eyes.  She felt my immense attraction and immediately beckoned me with a subtle waving of her hand to come sit next to her.

She held my hand as she greeted all the souls who had come to visit her and receive her drishti, her powerful spiritual vision.  This blessing of holding her hand connected me with a rich, profound silence, in a deeper way, than my own 7 years of practice of Raja Yoga Meditation had produced so far.  She connected me with the unlimitedness of Nirvana, (literally, the place of no sound), the Home of all Souls.  Yes, this is the dimension from which we, as souls, have all come to the earth… and it is the place to which we will all return at the end of our journey.  This is the place to which Dadi Janki is immovably connected and which allows her to be in this world in a very present and loving way and yet to be so detached from it.

Dadi, even at her venerable age, is still a dynamic speaker of truth and shares her gifts continually.  Her words are rich and full of experience and knowing.  My favorite books of hers are:Companion of God and Inside Out.

Dadi speaks in Hindi.  What follows is a sampling of what I have collected from her many rich classes, translated into English.

The Subject is Love and Honesty.

“Love is connected to virtues.  Virtues create love both within the self and within others.

When virtues reduce, the quality of love also reduces.

When all virtues are present, there is complete and pure love.

Out of all the virtues, the main one is honesty.  If we feel someone is not being honest with us, our love breaks. Whether it’s our mother, father, husband, wife, or friend, if we feel that they are being dishonest,  love breaks.

In terms of our relationship with God, if we are honest with God we will draw His love.  If we are not, that love will break.  Even if we have no other virtues than this one of honesty,  we will be able to draw God’s love.

The first kind of honesty is honesty with myself.  If I am honest with myself, there need be no situation in which I am not honest with others.

If someone does not believe me, if someone distrusts my honesty, perhaps it is a sign that I need to become more honest. Instead of blaming them, I should realise this, and look at how to become more honest.

Honesty does not mean simply speaking our mind. Honesty means to be very clear about everything going on inside us.  Where there is honesty, feelings become pure and clean. Honesty is where there are no other thoughts or feelings inside, other than those that the Most High would have. Such clarity is reflected in our words; they will be filled with the power of truth and spoken with ease and without hesitation.

Genuine honesty cultivated within is what will reach out and touch others.

Being easily influenced by people will diminish our ability to remain honest.

Others will not be able to get that feeling of truth from us, and our interactions will not carry a feeling of love.  They will seem superficial.

Although superficial love is better than no love at all-at least it ensures that we don’t become completely dry-it will nonetheless be obvious that it is not the real thing.”~ Dadi Janki~

Such is the importance of honesty!

rose on hand with light

Wishing you the blessings of honesty and love.                                                        Wishing you the willingness to be honest with yourself.

Wishing you the joy of being filled by the Beloved Ocean of Love.                        Wishing you the experience of love in all your relationships.

In Deep Peace and With Love,

Shivalaya
