Is Your Purpose-On Purpose?

The Joy and Grace of Living Your Purpose

Aloha to You, Wherever You May Be,

When I recently drew the blessing card called Purpose~I read it thoughtfully and began to wonder! It said: “A master is motivated by the meaning of their life and will persevere regardless of all obstacles. A master doesn’t deviate.” I began thinking about the nature of purpose, motivation, commitment, and overcoming obstacles. In one’s life there exist different levels of purpose. In one respect, we have our physical goals and purpose~i.e. to have a satisfying career, faithful friends, a supportive living environment, a healthy body, and maybe even a decent bank account! In Hindi, the word- lokik relates to all things material, i.e. our outer world. When it comes to lokik goals, pursuits, and responsibilities, they are varied and unique depending on one’s specific interests, talents, family conditioning and upbringing, education, and other worldly factors that have influenced one’s development.

When it comes to spiritual goals and aims, the Hindi language has another word that is used exclusively when referring to one’s spiritual life or inner world. That word is “alokik”. When it comes to spirituality, or inner aspirations, a constant of almost all people if they take the time to wonder is the question – Who am I? The answer to this question must be broad enough to be independent of the changing roles one has in the course of their life as they journey from an infant to the grave. Another spiritual purpose for many is to discover their own personal connection to the Creator, the One Above, the Universe, or whatever name one gives to that All-powerful Force.

At the lovely age of “60 something”, I had gleaned from life personally fulfilling and universal answers to both of these questions. The quest for the answers intensified as I approached the age of retirement~when there was space in life away from the immediate demands of family, work, and friends to give time to the inner world. I am now in a position and place in life where I have the tools to share with others to assist them on the inner journey. Perhaps you are now becoming aware that as a result of your perception of yourself and others, as simply lokik human beings, with lokik mindsets, chances are that your spiritual or alokik nature has become buried and unaccessible under the burden and overload of impressions and imprints of “the world which has been too much with us”. This happens due to karmic relationships, poor choices, harmful situations, and traumatic events that have distracted us and /or blocked our ability to access our truth.

I offer folks different opportunities to clarify their lokik as well as alokik purpose and meaning in life. I’ve synthesized through my own ongoing journey over the last 21 years while living on the island of Kauai a process of Spiritual Empowerment that I share with others. This process includes deep listening, writing, meditating, and silence to assist you in unlocking your doors of perception into the wonderful truths about your own essential nature which can lead you to embodying your true Self.

What better time, than the present unprecedented times of “lock down” and social distancing to dive deep into the wonder of the Self.

Doing What’s Good for the Soul to Create Lasting Happiness!

Featured

One of the many benefits of meditation is that through daily meditation one carves out time and space away from the drama of life.  This one aspect of switching out of the limited, everyday world of involvements with people, places, and things into the inner world allows the unlimited self to feel into new attitudes, reflections, and perspectives that will color and shape your outer world.  This is an ultimate form of creativity.  This is a space to reflect upon your life goals not just projects, career, and health, but to discern what is your ultimate course for happiness, eternal happiness. What is the highest aim you have for yourself, the soul, the cosmic navigator of your life. What direction will set you on your course for ultimate, everlasting happiness…

A great example of our time is the Dali Lama who says that “kindness is his religion”. This is the rudder of his ship that keeps his thoughts, words, and deeds on course. Your aim or goal may start out as simple as that. Meditation will assist you in staying true to your aim. For as you accumulate time in reflection and meditation, your thoughts will continue to decrease and slow down and you will see what patterns have been set in place that no longer usher you into the right seat.  When this begins to happen, you are in a better place to change the old patterns and create new habits that put you into the seat of self-determination, self-respect, and sovereignty.

At the end of the day –  check inside and see how this day added to or detracted from your feelings of positivity and wellness.  Where were you on course, where did you go off course… What situations, people, or tasks contributed to achieving your aim and which didn’t.  Keep an account, just as a successful business must keep accounts of profit and loss to stay out of the “red”.  Shakespeare said in one of his great plays: “All’s Well that Ends Well”. At the end of every day, ask yourself, did this day add to my account of joy or did it add to my account of sorrow? Use this end of the day reflection as a rudder to gauge what adjustments you can make to create more joy than sorrow tomorrow!  Adjustments usually involve attitude…what attitudes will I cultivate to arrive at my destination at the end of the day successfully…

To be successful at this, you must be willing to see yourself.

Ask yourself, am I willing to look into the mirror of my own heart?

If you are hesitant about looking at yourself…ask yourself another question: would I rather listen to my conscience/heart or to the ego?

Granted, it isn’t always easy to look at ourselves.  It’s much easier to see the faults of others, isn’t it?  Practically speaking, there’s not much chance that you can change anyone else. Therefore you may as well love yourself enough to make the changes in you that will bring joy and contentment.

When you have mercy and love for yourself, it makes it okay to see what mistakes are going on and to share them with a Higher Power, the One who has an overview of the situation and who has your best interests at heart!  Stay honest, clear your heart each night, and see how you will attract a shower of Divine Love and assistance as you open up each night. This kind of love makes the impossible possible.

Talk to yourself sweetly:  assure yourself that “I believe in Love and I believe I can change”.  Then you can do what is good for the soul.   Be willing to let the ego die and do what’s good for the soul!

Doing what is good for the soul can feel like a blow to the ego. In your meditations, practice being the witness, ie. the detached and loving observer. The muscle of awareness or the consciousness of being the observer, the loving witness will become stronger than the ego as it is practiced in meditation.  This awareness is your true power and will begin to be activated and available when you are in action during the day. As you witness yourself as you act through the body,  each day… as you become the observer and the doer at the same time, self-checking becomes automatic and natural.

While each individual’s aim or ultimate goal for themselves will be unique to them, a common denominator for all souls at this time is to reduce the amount of negativity in their lives in favor of creating more positivity.

A simple nightly ritual to help you with this process is to have the determined thought to let go of a weakness that you are aware of and to replace it with a virtue. This ritual can help turn the negative behavior around. For example, if you wish to let go of arrogance and its offshoots, a virtue to replace it with could be sweetness, cooperation, or humility. Rather than focus on the negative feelings and obstacles that arrogance has brought into your day, use your imagination to bring into your feelings what it could feel like to act sweetly, cooperatively, or humbly.

You may even wish to replay a scene from your day which didn’t turn out well.  See yourself replacing the old, weakening behavior pattern that emerged with its opposite…replace the arrogance with humilty, the anger with understanding and care, or the hurt or disappointment with a feeing of empowerment. Enjoy this contemplation.  Anchor in to the new feelings that may emerge, allow new patterns of response to come into play. This is using the same visualisation technique that successful athletes use regularly and frequently before a practice, a game or a match. As well as physically practicing the skills of their sport, successful athletes will also ‘see’ themselves going through the motions in detail. It all happens in the mind first. They see themselves playing the game successfully and then they go out and play to win! This is a great technique that you can use to your advantage during your nightly checking and in morning meditation as you set the tone of the day!

This is a wonderful opportunity to remind yourself that life itself can be seen as a game and that you are a player, an actor who is playing a part.  To play your part well, takes knowledge, love, determination, and lots of practice.  Be gentle and kind with yourself and the other players you encounter in this game of life.

Another end of the day reflection is to recognize what judgments or criticisms you  imposed upon yourself and/or others today .  Also check to see what judgments or criticisms were received by you from others.   In order to sleep with a clean and happy heart, visualise bathing it all away in a pristine pool or under a waterfall. Clean yourself in this way until you are left with only pure feelings of  compassion for yourself and others.

A powerful mantra that can be done seperately or in conjunction with the ‘bathing visualisation is: I am a pure soul and So-and-so (the soul that disturbed you) is also a pure soul.  Repeat it as many times as needed til it feels real and true and your negative thoughts/feelings have been washed away, transformed.

Be creative as you gain ease and success with your nightly ritual.  Take up  different themes.  For example, you may wish to bathe in the Ocean of Contentment and release all uncomfortable, unsatisfying feelings, complaints, and nagging inner voices.  As a soul, you are unlimited.  Whatever you focus upon will increase.  What will it be…contentment or discontentment… love or hurt…the choice is ultimately yours.

Self-checking is about lightning up and feeling great, not about blaming yourself (or others) or feeling guilty.

Let your nightly reflections be your rudder moving you easily to the shores of happiness, lightness, love, well-being and success

SOUL CONSCIOUS MEDITATION: I AM A SOUL ACTING THROUGH THIS BODY

Purpose of this Meditation:  To stabilize the mind in remembrance of the self as a soul…I am a soul acting through this body…this is Soul Consciousness…a natural identity that takes practice to remember.  For we have been immersed in the 3rd Dimension for many lifetimes.  Now is the time to Remember once again who we truly are!

Meditation:  I, the soul, am a star-like point of perfect peace and purity.  My origin is the golden-red expanse of the soul world, a world or dimension of silence and peace.  In my original state, I am fully charged with my natural and eternal attributes of purity, beauty, love, joy, peace, wisdom, and sweetness.  When I take my first birth upon the earth, I sparkle with essence; happiness flows from within me, for this is my natural state.

Gradually as I accumulated many births on this corporeal plane of action, I become attached to the senses, to temporary objects, and to people.  This caused me to forget my original attributes.

The illusion (Maya) that existence is entirely physical dominated my consciousness.  The forces of anger, lust, greed, ego, and attachment became an accepted form of interaction. My ability to control matter is replaced with matter controlling me.  Happiness is no longer my natural state.

Through meditation and contemplation, I can regain my spiritual status and natural endowments, my birthright of peace and happiness.  I, the soul, become aware and  recharged once again to my original state.

Through the correct knowledge of who I am and consistent contemplation upon this knowledge, the mind becomes shaped through elevated, essenceful thoughts.  I become soul conscious once again!

This, my friends is the first step in the Raja Yoga course.  Soul Consciousness is vital preparation to create concentration on the Highest on High.  Without soul consciousness, the mind is drawn by the many distractions of the physical world.  I, the soul, must claim my spiritual mastery over the mind and the senses.  Then my focus is free to contemplate upon my spiritual existence and the presence and power of the Almighty in my life, as my teacher, my friend, and my divine parent.

May you become detached and extremely loving and like the lotus remain pure, despite the mud from which it grows.

Many Blessings,

Shivalaya

ENLIGHTENED ANSWERS

“We are fundamentally good, not fundamentally flawed, and we can trust this.”  Thank you Pema Chodron, for affirming this for all of us.  The Buddhists call the idea of a fixed identity “ego-clinging”.  The ego tries relentlessly to stand on solid ground in an ever-shifting world.  If you meditate enough, you will notice that your identity will expand, grow, and morph supplanting the limited you by the unlimited You.

As you sit still, in the vastness of who you are, in the softness of your inner world, notice how attached you have been to the thousand little opinions that the little you have equated with yourself. The little self is the you that has been ‘thought’ into a corner.

Turn this around by focusing on thoughts which unlimit you, “uncorner you”.

Expand into this reality.

Here are some profoundly unlimiting thoughts that describe the eternal, imperishable true You.

Spinning the Right Thoughts

I want Peace

Who are you?  What vision do you have of yourself?  What recurring thoughts do you generate?  Are the feelings you create the sum total of who you are?

Using the power of imagination and creative thought to visualize and bring into being the unmanifest world of potential within yourself  is to work on the main thing you have control over~~~yourself!

The dialogue you have with yourself is the most important thing you have on this journey.  It ultimately determines your happiness and satisfaction levels as you interact in this world.

Watch your thoughts as you perform small tasks today.  Since we are all originally pure, elevated, happy, and spiritually powerful beings,  check to see if what you are thinking,on a regular basis is taking you into alignment with your original state.   Or do your thoughts bring you down into an uncomfortable, but familiar state? If so, develop the inner power to stop, reflect for a moment, and change the conversation in your head.

Refocus and have the determination to not feed yourself thoughts which bring you down, which compare yourself as better or worse than someone else or which create inner feelings of unworthiness or dislike towards the self or others.

To win this inner battle requires “letting go”.

Letting go is a beautiful state of mind to nurture and can bring you into freedom.

As you choose to look at yourself with self-respect, your cage door which was never really locked, will magically swing open.   This process does not have to be laborious!  As a matter of fact, it can be one in which you continue to become lighter and lighter, the more you are willing to let go of!

The more you are willing to open to change the better things will get for you!

This is a transistional time and in many ways, a fast-moving one.  Everyday in the scenes of life, change is swiftly appearing.  You have the opportunity to choose to play your part by creating beauty in your inner world and by making your home a place of peace.  Yes, that’s where it all begins.

Create a home that has a pure vibration.  In order to do this, begin at the level of thought.  Check the thoughts you are having and sending into the atmosphere of your home environment, into your food as you prepare it, and into those who share the space with you.

Begin by talking to yourself sweetly.  Talk to you, the soul, not you, the ego. This isn’t about creating a stronger sense of ego.  Drop the ego, just as you drop your shoes at the door of your dwelling.

Ask yourself…who am I?  (I am a soul, a guest in this world.)  Where did I come from?  (true answer: I came from a world of light, the home of all souls).  Why have I incarnated?  (I have entered this body in order to…) One answer, if you are willing to accept it, is that I have entered this body in order to bring light back to this world and to establish a heavenly world of happiness for all.

Your “sweet talk” will depend on your values.  What do you value?   What 2 values if lived by everyone on the planet right now, would bring about the most beneficial and significant changes?

Write your responses down; for here is a key to what is truly important to you.

At the end of the day, take account of the moments when you were really living from these two cherished values.  How did you feel?  What transpired around you?  How did others respond?  Now note the times that you slacked off and forgive yourself with the determination to be more aware of being in alignment with your truth tomorrow.

Of utmost importance is the willingness to see yourself and others clearly, in your original and pure state.  See the innocent two year old in all who you meet. Can you really see others as unlimited souls, not as limited bodies of flesh and bone?  This is the high bar you can set for yourself for it will change the quality of your life immensely!

Seeing and understanding the great loss you’ve caused to yourself and others by not keeping your vision clear might help you gather up the determination to begin seeing with “new eyes”. Don’t compromise yourself, don’t be slack when it comes to this!

Begin to identify the mistakes you’ve been making which have taken you away from your own divinity!

To make this value firm and to keep yourself accountable to it, you may even be willing to create a system to give up something that you really enjoy doing/eating/having when your focus slips.   This is especially effective when due to seeing a person as a body, you have given them some grief or difficulty or have taken grief or difficulty from them.  Either way doesn’t work in this stage of your development.   This is the moment to decide that in order to uproot this old, deep pattern of relating to souls as bodies, today I will forego enjoying …? or that relaxing cup of tea.  Use whatever leverage will help you think twice about doing the same thing tomorrow. Accountability is a great tool.  Having an accountability partner is also very useful.

Decide how to wean yourself from the old way of “seeing” to the new way of seeing.  You may make the agreement with yourself that if I can stay clear 80% of the time, tomorrow, I will allow myself to enjoy that cup of tea or that second piece of chocolate.  Work with yourself.  Set yourself doable goals.

Be sure to reward yourself when you’ve had a stretch of many hours or days of seeing others and yourself as you truly are, no matter what.  Some souls give you happiness, for the others you can choose to be merciful.  See them as under ‘an influence’ that is preventing their true nature from coming through.

When you have the strong spiritual aim to only give happiness and receive happiness, you will become willing to do whatever it takes to achieve this.

You will then become a blessing to everyone and yourself through your every thought, word, and deed.  You will become an elevated soul, a master almighty authority, and be amply rewarded by enjoying the coming age of peace and happiness upon the earth.  By staying in soul consciousness, you will receive great help, without asking,  from the Benevolent One.  The more you remember that, the more you will receive this Divine Energy that guides you along the path to your own divinity with grace and ease.

When obstacles arise, in the form of a negative thought or feeling about yourself or someone else, gently and firmly remind yourself:  I am a peaceful, loveful soul; this is my true nature.  They too are originally a peaceful, loveful soul.  Trust that they really are doing the best they can, right now.  By maintaining this vision, you are creating an opening for yourself and the other to move forward in a new way.

Look at your own conditioned responses honestly;  then remember your goal -keep it simple- don’t give sorrow to others and don’t take sorrow either.

As you affirm that you truly are a peaceful soul again and again and take action in your life not to let old patterns have their way; those conditioned patterns of response will melt away, for they do not belong to the true self.

You will become one who understands your own value and you will radiate a unique sparkle into the world!  Your presence will inspire others to be free from the constraints of ego.

Consistency is important.  Inconsistency breeds doubt in the self.  As you move along with the aim to restore your divinity, you will feel the pull of your original nature.  You will enjoy becoming a bestower of happiness.  This will become your anchor.

Know that efforts now, bring reward in the present and in your future world.   As you spread happiness and good wishes to others now, you are serving as an instrument to bring about a world of peace and love.

As you become the master of yourself today, this mastery becomes yours eternally.   As you attain self-sovereignty, you become worthy of a high status in your future lives.

It all comes down to spinning the right thoughts…I am a pure soul… my divine birthright is to be peaceful, happy, and powerful…   I value myself… I can respect others easily…Keep telling yourself these sweet truths and you will remain stable in your true self, a being of love and bliss.

Self-Respect ~ Let Me Count the Ways

I am a child of GodA spiritual journey often begins with  the question:’Who am I?’

Focusing on our eternal nature with self-reflection and self-respect brings into awareness the unfoldment of the answer to Who am I.

Giving respect to your true Self, instead of demanding or expecting respect for your ego from others has great benefits.   As your self-respect increases, the soul becomes humble and fulfilled. Eliminating negative and useless thoughts about myself and others is easier when focused on the elevated awareness of the Self as a being of light..  This kind of self respect dispels consciousness of the self as a limited, temporary body governed by an ego and our true nature of peace, love, and joy can be expressed.

Being in self-respect brings respect from others easily and continually. This is the opposite of arrogance; this has to do with acknowledging the True Self and our true qualities.

Renouncing the desires of I, me, and mine cools the ego down.  Work on the ego allows one to experience progress in meditation and other spiritual work.

Self-respect is the foundation of the state of soul-consciousness.  Each and every thought of respect  about our true and eternal nature creates energy, while wasteful thoughts about myself and others reduces my power and vitality.

Start this process of respect for your eternal nature by creating a list of respectful  thoughts or ‘titles’ you have for your soul.  Such thoughts will build inner stability to  face adverse situations.  They will keep you in a good stage of soul-consciousness and in the company of the Highest on High who wishes only the best for you.

Here is a starter list to get you moving in the right direction.

  1.  I am a great soul.  It is true that I’m great.  Feel it and accept it with deep     realization.
  2.  I am a destroyer of obstacles for myself and others.  My Divine Parent is always with me.  I am under the Canopy of Protection.
  3.  My original and eternal state is of  sovereignty of the soul over the mind and body.
  4.  I am a pure soul and so is everyone else originally and eternally a pure soul.
  5.  My true nature is of peace.  When I am connected to peace, I give peace to all souls through the freedom of my mind.
  6. On the basis of self-respect, I charge up the atmosphere around me, including my home, my meditation area, and wherever I am present in the world.
  7. I am a powerful soul, unlimited and blissful.
  8. Expressing love without conditions and expectations is a natural joy for the soul.
  9. I am a beloved child of God.

Give yourself the gift of Self-Respect every day.  It is especially powerful, during the first ten minutes of your day to reflect on one of these points.  This practice can be repeated for the last ten minutes of your day before sleeping, as well. These times of the day, your subconscious is most available and will take in your positive thoughts.  Also imbibe a powerful point of self-respect while eating and drinking.  Work this practice into the things you do everyday for the sustenance of your body.  You will be also sustaining the energy of your soul.

You are a blessed soul.  Blessed by this spiritual knowledge, blessed by the Divine Director of this play, and blessed by every positive thought you choose.

Choose well, live well, and progress.
