What does Spiritual Power or Spiritual Mastery mean to you?

This article will take up each of the 8 main spiritual powers of the soul & show you how to apply them for spiritual mastery.

The knowledge of the soul and the 8 powers comes through the Brahma Kumari World Spiritual University in Rajasthan, India and is taught at B.K. Centers around the world. This knowledge  guides people of all races, creeds, belief systems, and religions back to their original birthright of self sovereignty.

Knowledge of the soul is needed to activate a change of self identification and awareness from Body Consciousness to Soul Consciousness.

Soul Consciousness is essential to living in peace, love, & harmony with yourself, others & nature.

No matter where you are presently on your life’s journey, this new awareness of the soul and the 8 main powers will elevate your thoughts and feelings about yourself and others and will increase your awareness and appreciation of the unique role you play and that other souls are playing.

As you familiarize yourself with each power, imagine what the power feels like, sounds like, and what your life will look like as you gain access and mastery to that power.

Reflect deeply on how and when to use the power and how you will feel when you are in command of each power. See yourself walking comfortably and confidently in the light of each of these eight powers.  Then check inside:

DO I HAVE FAITH THAT THESE POWERS ARE MY BIRTHRIGHT?

Check yourself for any  limiting, subconscious beliefs such as: spiritual mastery is reserved for the fortunate few who are mystics, saints, and sages, or other “advanced” “religious” beings.

Ask your Self, the unlimited you, to reveal all limiting beliefs, conscious and unconscious, about self-mastery.  Know that you have picked up these beliefs from the world around you. They are not true. They do not belong to you and it is time to release them.

Asking and waiting for a response will reveal the conditioned  assumptions that you have taken on board about how attainable or unattainable you believe self-mastery to be.

Your next step is to allow letting go of them to be easy.  This is an important step in freeing yourself to achieve your highest state of consciousness.

How will you know when you’ve become a master of your spiritual power ?

Here’s one definition of spiritual power

I am in my spiritual power when I am able to respond to people and situations from my original state of unlimited love, peace, purity, joy, wisdom and truth.

These qualities define who I really am.

They are my original and eternal truth and my natural state of being.

Knowing who you are makes all the difference.   As you use your original natural qualities and your spiritual powers, you realize that you are no longer living as a victim at the mercy of the inconsistency of the world and people around you.  Instead of being stuck in ‘victim consciousness‘, your awareness is of yourself living as a soul in your original state of spiritual mastery.  This is called soul consciousness. The ego is not part of the soul and its influence will diminish as you, the soul, shines through.

The more you review the knowledge of each of the eight powers, the more easily you will be able to realize them…

If you experience any power for even one second, your happiness increases so much.”

Murli (Raja Yoga Teachings from the Divine Source) 11/17/94

These teachings about the soul are for all souls

  • As you become stable in the awareness of being a powerful soul,  it becomes easy to free yourself from old, conditioned patterns of behavior. You become free from the behaviors and outdated habits that controlled you before you realized who you are.
  • You are able to surrender negative, sorrowful, and traumatic impressions that have been left upon the soul– to the Highest on High.
  • Your original soul qualities of love, peace, purity, spiritual power, truth, joy, and bliss emerge and now guide and influence your life and the way you respond to people, situations, and circumstances.
  • Ego and attachments are no longer running the show.
  • You become detached and loving and are able to take yourself and others lightly.

 Loving, Detached, and Naturally Light

So Let’s Begin:

   The first power is called:

The Power to Withdraw

This power allows you to return to peace and find your center of internal focus by withdrawing your attention away from everything external for short periods of time every day.

Like a tortoise, moving to a position of safety, you are able to withdraw from the senses so that you are no longer controlled by them.

With this power, you are able to disengage, when necessary, from negative or hurtful situations around you.

You become the detached observer, calm, cool, and contented.

To build this power, give yourself time to be quiet and reflective and to contemplate upon your original nature and the nature of  Supreme Being of Goodness. Imbibe this power of Goodness or Peace or Benevolence from the Supreme.

As you cultivate this ability to withdraw, you experience how beneficial it is to retreat from the pull of the world, other people, and the five senses on a daily basis and to nurture and fortify your Self in the remembrance of the Supreme Being, who is also called and can be experienced as the Ocean of Love, Ocean of Peace.

As your sense of freedom from the outer world grows and the pull of peace from your inner world increases, your meditative time and the desire for it also increases.

the location of the soul

To be able to WITHDRAW absolutely whether from the beliefs and limitations of the ego and the roles we play, from situations, or from emotions and body consciousness…the practice is the same.  It is the practice of SOUL CONSCIOUSNESS. This body is a costume that I put on and take off. I am a soul, a point of light. Pure and Divine in essence. Full. A tiny invisible star of pure consciousness, so small it is impossible to see. I live in this body, work in partnership with this body, and I extend my life force throughout the body, BUT I am LIGHT.

This practice throughout the day of remembering this, makes the Power to Withdraw very accessible and also insures that meditation will come easily and powerfully.

The power to withdraw is possible even while engaged in activity.  Even though your thoughts must be involved during most tasks, withdraw every so often and return to your inner state of peace.

As you practice this, your thoughts will disengage when not absolutely necessary.  Your mental energy will be saved.  This is called true controlling power and brings great strength back to the soul.  The soul begins to take its rightful place as the one in charge, the sovereign being.  As you become the master of your senses and incoming stimuli, you no longer feel like a slave to emotions or to the body. You are no longer being knocked around by external circumstances. You have become comfortable and at home in your inner sanctuary.

Withdrawing or ‘going within’ creates the reward of new perspectives based on clarity and a cool head.  The power to Withdraw is all about perspective and opens up possibilities to change situations.  To Withdraw is to detach or step back from whatever the current situation is, be it feelings, emotions, confusion.  I then have room to make my mind quiet and to wait for a signal from up above before responding.  Clarity and coolness make space for the power of intuition.  The need to speak so much decreases and over-thinking is reduced.  As you experience success by following  your intuition, the feeling of self-mastery begins to accumulate.  The Power to Withdraw is the pivot for the Power to Discern.

These are the many benefits of the Power to Withdraw.

great space for meditation

The second power is The Power to Pack Up.

It is the ability to stop all wasteful  thinking about past, present, and future events, in a second, and to remain positive, lighthearted, and free of burdens and worries.

This power is connected with the Power to Withdraw.

When withdrawing from the external world of the senses becomes natural and easy and you’ve made friends with your inner world, you will begin to notice that you are met by 3 obstacles: a chattering mind,  an analytical intellect with an endless list of questions, and a memory full of images of past impressions and experiences.  These 3 obstacles are your greatest challenges, but can be turned into your most valuable allies or advisors.

However, because these potential ‘advisors’~ the mind, intellect, and sanskaras have gone unsupervised and accustomed to too much freedom for too long, they now mistakenly think  that they are in charge.  This is not their  fault; it is simply the result of what has happened to you, the soul, over time. Now is the time, to take back the reins.

The Raja Yoga Teachings tell us that the human journey upon the earth has consisted of playing various roles in different lifetimes. All these experiences are imprinted upon the soul. The impact of these experiences may be active or dormant. Traumatic and repetitive experiences make a deeper impression upon the soul and usually have a stronger impact upon our present life.  Inadvertently,  your past-life experiences can overshadow your present perceptions and influence and cloud your thinking.    This occurred during the lifetimes in which our consciousness of being a soul was dominated by the consciousness of the 5 senses and their influences upon the body.  The presence or awareness of being the soul, the master navigator of the ship had become eclipsed by the mistaken identity of the physical parts we were playing.  Compare this process to an  actor, who forgets he is playing the part of Hamlet and at the end of the play is completely traumatized by the final scene in which blood and corpses dominate the stage floor. The director of the play notices the actor’s reactive condition and steps in to remind him that it was only a play and that now it is time to take off the costume and return to the peace of his own home and get some much needed rest.

As you come into the awareness of being a peaceful, loving soul, you are freed from mental and physical tiredness, trauma, and malaise.  As you become the master of your life, your mind, intellect, and memories will stop creating problems based on past associations.  They will be sustained by the soul’s growing ability to guide and support them positively.

Your advisors the mind, intellect, and sanskaras (impressions and memories) welcome the intervention of the soul whose presence brings truth to the forefront- this is restorative to the mind and intellect, who have been deeply influenced sometimes positively and often negatively by all the comings and goings of the parts you have played. This shouldn’t become a power struggle between the soul and its advisors; make friends with your mind and treat it as a mother would care for a child who had gone astray.  All this can happen through meditation and contemplation.  With the kindness of a mother or a  friend, encourage your mind to relax and to slow down the production of thoughts.  Guide your mind to indulge in the luxury of silence.

When your inquiring intellect asks why it should be quiet, help it to realize that the understanding it desires only comes through listening and observing, not through relentless questioning and searching.  Invite it to relax, detach, and be a loving observer.

As you learn to slow down and enjoy the silence, you won’t be tempted to jump on every train of memories that races up from your memory-bank.   Let the memories come and go. Past is past.  Refuse to get on the memory train and these interruptions from the past will become less frequent.

This second power to “pack up” is crucial to keep you the soul, in the driver’s seat, in the present moment of awareness, moving in the direction of your choice.

love yourself from the inside out

The 3rd power is the Power to Tolerate~ with this power you become like a fruit bearing tree that remains unaffected by the storms, the floods, and droughts of life and you respond to challenges with a positive frame of mind. Be like a mature, fruiting tree which when pelted by stones, drops its fruit in return. Have no irritation or annoyance… nothing will disturb your light frame of mind when you invoke the power to tolerate. golden light and tree

This ability comes with ease when you stay seated on your internal seat of the soul as the detached observer.  You are loving, involved, and detached at the same time.  In this light frame of mind, you can tolerate all types of situations and people, and the feeling of having to tolerate doesn’t even arise!  Instead you easily maintain your equanimity, your neutrality, by  understanding and accepting that everyone has their own unique part to play, and is playing it as best as they can.  This attitude will  develop the virtue of mercy for others, and yourself, too!

As you begin to practice the power of tolerance, you’ll realize that the first thing you’ll need to tolerate is your own inner reactions and triggers, as buried negative memories and emotions emerge.  Tolerance becomes possible when you detach from the thoughts and feelings by remembering that you are not your thoughts and feelings; you are the creator of your thoughts and feelings.  This awareness frees you to take charge of them and to create thoughts that are positive. It really is a game of awareness!

As you become adept at tolerating yourself, it is easier to tolerate others.  You appreciate your role in this world drama as a vital one.  You realize that you are a conscious being tolerating the actions of others by accepting their energy and  returning it with a higher quality of energy. (like the mature fruit tree giving its fruit to the one who threw stones at it)

Mastery of this power gives you the attainment of  radiating love in the face of insult, ridicule,  ignorance, rejection, criticism, and even hatred.  As a master of tolerance, you become a transformer of energy and are crowned with one of the highest values of life.

purple you are a soul

The fourth power is ~The Power to Accommodate.  Like the ocean which receives all rivers that flow into it, you accommodate all in a state of equanimity and remain unaffected by past situations. You accept and encourage the presence, ideas, and wishes of others, easily.

Visualize yourself as a master of accommodation who like the mighty ocean, accepts every river that flows into it, whether clean or polluted.  Yes, this is a big one!

Affirm: I am able to adjust myself and transform all that is happening around me with the power of accommodation and good wishes. I’m able to accommodate relationships and circumstances when I leave the  past in the past. As I embrace this truth, that past is past, the future appears clear and bright.

This doesn’t mean that you adjust to an atmosphere that is weakening or compromising. Rather through your broad outlook you transform negatives into positives, defects into virtues.  You are able to transform any scene that shows up into something beneficial.

The ability to accommodate others is a major challenge today. It means accepting and adjusting to someone else’s flow, working with another’s ideas, understanding another’s needs, being flexible, and tuning in.  For example, let’s say symbolically you are faced with a person who is ‘dying of thirst’.  Somehow you are not aware of it and instead of giving water, you offer diamonds, gold,  great advice, everything and anything, but a glass of water.  What the person wants is so simple, yet until he or she receives the water, it is difficult to value anything else that is offered.

Being accommodating requires a sense of fearlessness, which gives you the capacity to flex enough to allow a situation to develop naturally. Fearlessness, on your part, allows another to make their demands upon you.

Ask yourself: How fearless is my capacity to adjust and accommodate others to maximize the potential in each opportunity for the greatest  benefit for all?  The result of fearlessness is benevolence, a virtue that is god-like in nature and attracts more ot itself into life!

Anahola Praying Maiden

The fifth power is ~The Power to Decide. This is the ability to accurately assess all situations with clarity and confidence.  The power to decide or to ‘judge’ allows me to know the quality of my own choices, decisions, and actions. It does not include  judging others; no-one has that right. As I grow in this ability, I can make clear, quick, accurate, and unbiased decisions.  For this I need to be above the influence of situations and the emotions and opinions of others. I also need a clear understanding of what is right and wrong.

As my power to tolerate and accommodate all people and all situations grows, I sense (judge) that I have matured into a wise soul who makes accurate, authentic judgments (decisions).  I have gained the immense power to see myself, situations, and others for the sake of acting in accord with harmony.  The power to decide or judge is the power to choose truth, even if I must stand alone in that truth.

The power to decide/judge is intrinsically connected with the power to discriminate; for to discriminate or discern is the ability to correctly evaluate the thoughts, words, and actions of myself and others as a benevolent empress.  While the Power to Judge manifests outwardly, it relies on the Power to Discriminate, an inner process connected with the inner knowing and wisdom of the intellect.

When inner knowing is acted upon, it has great impact upon the world.  The one who uses the power of discernment is making a statement that “I trust myself; I am clear that my actions are worthy and will bring success.  I’m prepared to stand by my choices and be accountable for the consequences.”

I trust that I can accurately assess any situation with clarity and confidence and decide how to respond.  In a detached, neutral state of mind, I judge my own thoughts, words, and actions to see if they are beneficial to the scene in which I find myself.  I become the judge of myself, rather than a lawyer defending myself and judging others!

If I see someone moving outside of the divine laws, there are two possible attitudes to choose from, other than judgment.  If someone is doing something wrong and doesn’t realize it, I adopt the quality or virtue of mercy to inspire him or her to make corrections by being an example.

If someone does realize they are acting against divine law and they are making an effort to overcome it, I maintain an attitude of respect and endeavor to empower him or her with my thoughts by seeing them as a ‘pure soul’. To accurately judge/access the needs of others and to assist them spiritually means that I must be free of self-interest.

Kindness is the Highest Form of Wisdom

Brief Review of the first 5 Powers

I am able to rely on my judgments, assessments, and decisions only when:

(1)  I withdraw and restore my inner power as a soul,

(2)  I pack up and put a full stop to wasteful thinking,

(3)  I’m able to tolerate the emergence of any negative feelings, and

(4)  I can accommodate the ideas, desires, actions, and presence of others.

When I have mastered the 4 powers above then:

(5) I’m able to make accurate, authentic judgments and decisions and create powerful responses to life. I’ve found the balance of love and law~ spiritual love tempered by spiritual principles.

However, if I know the best course of action and don’t follow that ‘knowing’, it indicates that I’m not in command of the Power to Judge and Decide.

When I check in with myself, it is not to punish or shame myself, but to decide if my thoughts, words, and actions are consistently of the highest quality.  Only by checking in will I be able to change and make the adjustments I wish to make. This is called the process of checking and changing!

While I don’t judge others, I do review their actions…for rightness, for quality, and for value.  I’m an eternal student and learn from everything and everyone around me.  I have no need to judge any person for I know that innately all are good, even if their actions may demonstrate otherwise.

power of words

The sixth power is the Power to Discern.

Like the trained eye of the jeweler who discerns the real from the imitation, clarity of mind discerns the beneficial from the destructive and truth from falsehood in a second.

To clearly see what’s true from what’s not, and to know what’s really going on, I have to step back (as in the Power to Withdraw). Detaching from my opinions, desires and from the situation, I perceive much more clearly. Interestingly, stepping back acts like a magnifying glass-I am able to focus on the whole picture and all of its parts…I understand the truth of it in a second. I attain certainty.  I am not just seeing through the physical eyes, but with the inner eye, the spiritual eye – or third eye. This is the power of clarity, to see with different eyes and to hear with different ears. It is about trusting yourself even in the face of opposing opinions.

The power to discern brings with it the power to listen to what is known deep within and to discern the subtler aspects of life. The Power to Discern is a beautiful key to unlocking the appearance of magic in your life. And while magic exists always as certainly as you do, it is the Power to Discern that allows you to capture the wonder, seeing it with a divine vision, a third eye. Then your security becomes anchored in the quality of your thoughts and actions today. You realize  that tomorrow doesn’t exist in your mind, tomorrow is a consequence of the alignment of virtues and actions that happen today.                                                                              (1)The Four Faces of Woman:Caroline Ward

Discernment uses the capacity to see the three aspects of time: the past, the present, and the future to assess the best course of action.  This power of the soul realizes that sometimes the best route is to take no action at all.

Discrimination supports the soul in not reacting.

The spiritual sight required to act from truth is only possible when there is an understanding of the laws and principles governing the course of human life.  Knowledge of the laws of nature, both physical and spiritual, restore one’s sight and clear the ability to discern and discriminate.  Only then can the illusions of  insecurity, superficial beauty and falsehood parading as truth, be dispelled.  Only then will things of temporary value be perceived and separated from those of eternal value.

Without the development of this inner ability to discriminate, one’s journey is a path of many dead ends and frequent mistakes.

A master discerns exactly where she is going and seldom makes the same mistake twice.

Meditative Face with Soul sparkling

The seventh power is called the Power to Face. With this power, nothing seems like an obstacle, but rather like a stepping stone to victory.  You have the ability to confront and resolve external and internal obstacles, test, and challenges. To lack this power means to be dominated by external dramas.

When your inner strength has been restored and fortified with knowledge and spiritual power from the Source, you are able to face and conquer all the inner dragons that emerge on your quest.  In the symbology of the saints, dragons are slayed with sword and armor. In this case, you face your false dragons with truth and honesty and thereby put misleading beliefs, illusions, and destructive habits to rest.  With the power to face, you know that nothing is too fearsome to handle.  The soul is equipped with all the powers required to face whatever comes in front of it.  This may take the form of overwhelming emotions, lack of self worth, attacks by others, or situations that seem impossible, insurmountable.  The magic of the power to face is truth balanced by love; with the power to face intact, the soul will face the external tests of lies, corruption, fears, and hatred equally by walking towards them and seeing the true nature of each situation. This power looks deeply to find the hidden benefit and beauty within each circumstance and to respond only to that.

Baba and Woman

Tests can come in the silence of your meditations or dreams as ancient images and feelings emerge from the dark and distant past. Horror, terror, or simply error will test your power to look at them squarely in the face, forgive yourself, and move on.  Remember past is past.  The power to face will bring the light of the day into any darkness that threatens your positive destination.

A master thrives on challenge and there is no such thing as failure, only feedback. Remember change and chaos are often inevitable companions on the spiritual journey. Since there is no better time than the present, your mantra as the master, must be ‘just face it, face it right now.’  A master knows that delay is costly. A master acts from the position of not being alone!

Drenched in Rose Petals

Last, but not least, is the eighth power of Cooperation.  As you develop your ability to give your time, experience, and wisdom in service to others, you don’t feel that you are competing against anyone.  Co-operation requires the surrender of the ego.

To truly see someone’s highest qualities of character and not their weakness is an act of profound co-operation. The offering of powerful, though subtle thoughts towards the success of another soul is incognito, but invaluable co-operation. The generous showering of good feelings upon a friend or foe when they are down is selfless cooperation.  Co-operation is priceless when it comes in the form of inspiration and a constantly positive attitude regardless of the size of a perceived disaster!!!

To accept, acknowledge, and appreciate others is to co-operate with their journey, giving them the fuel of encouragement to spark their efforts.  Co-operation is essential for unity and harmony. It’s the only way to fly for the highest good of all.

3 BENEFITS OF SILENCE THAT BRING UNTOLD BENEFIT

Featured

Make time to practice reaching the inner space of Silence that brings untold benefit.

An untold benefit of silence is that it brings you into
the part of you that is pure and perfect…

The place in you that is innocent and untouched by the less than perfect characteristics you’ve acquired by living in a less than perfect world.

Silence brings benefit by opening
the place within which is filled with divine qualities.

It opens you to a portal of a constant state of resourcefulness and well-being.

Silence holds the key to this place of freedom from conflict and negativity of any sort.

Silence opens you to the Still-Point-within where you find a deeply refreshing experience. When you reach there, you will know by the sweet smile which takes over your lips.

A Practical benefit of SILENCE is that you manage your thoughts better.

You will find that there is no need to think as much as you did; that simply sitting in Silence will emerge, effortlessly, much of all that you need.

Another benefit is that the experience of Silence releases you from the grip of your negative programming and conditioning.

You will more easily experience the truth of your inner peace and dignity. This further aids the mind in remaining focused and capable.

THIRDLY, the power of Silence can be shared. As you increase your experience of Silence, your power can help those without power to continue in their efforts to grow in awareness of this place of silence and experience peace. Your treasure of Silence plus the additional treasure of true, powerful thoughts will help others go beyond the limited into the unlimited and the divine.

It feels so good to “go beyond” in this way, to leave behind thought and speech and become quiet for a little while.

It’s so refreshing and nourishing; it’s habit-forming.

Love for spiritual introversion, solitude and silence complements our life in such a beautiful way.”

From: Companion of God-Dadi Janki- former Head of Brahma Kumaris

Dearest Soul,
Please share these thoughts in the beautiful way you do, with someone else to lighten their life! It may not be in the form of an email; it could be in the form of “good wishes for their well-being and pure feelings towards that soul”…simply by thinking and directing these true, pure thoughts towards someone you care about, you can lighten their mind and increase their spiritual power so that they have enough energy to rise above their difficulties and challenges.

Tonight is Dedicated to…

meditating-on-rocks

This piece was originally written about a group World Peace Meditation that was dedicated to our soul family around the globe.  It went something like this:

Tonight’s World Peace Meditation is Dedicated to…

To all those who seek the deepest peace and the greatest love in life,

To those who simply seek to know what is truth and what is illusion,

To those who know they are not being true to themselves and are moved to live with greater authenticity and integrity,

To those who are aware that this world is on the edge of a dramatic and profound shift and sense they have a significant role to play,

To those who know a Higher Power is now at work in the world and hear the subtle call of that Power to be present and available,

To those who simply wish to know exactly who they are and why on earth they are here.

It is also for all the souls and all the aspects of nature that are suffering, as well as for the souls who suffer because of witnessing the suffering.  For when one sees people, including children, suffering tremendous pain at the hands of others, our sense of injustice is triggered, often accompanied by what many would call “righteous anger”, and perhaps even hatred for the oppressor.

In the process, these negative feelings create more suffering for ourselves and those around us.  This becomes a habit, an inner pattern that is repeated, not only when we witness global strife, but also when someone at home, or at work, or in our place of worship, or on the street does something we consider unjust, the same button is pushed, and the same pattern of outrage, fear, resistance, anger, or hatred emerges.

What is wrong with this picture? What is missing here? What have we forgotten? What have we failed to see or understand?

A deep understanding of the laws of action and reaction (karma) assures us that whatever we give, will eventually return to us, and whatever happens to us is the result of our actions finding their way back to us.

When this understanding is integrating into our awareness as we watch apparent injustices in the world, it defuses our outrage, lessening the pain.  It’s not that we sit passively and allow people to inflict suffering upon ourselves or others, but it helps us to see that the greatest or highest contribution that we can make, to both the victim and the persecutor, is to help them remember who they are and help them rise above the anger and fear towards each other.  In this way, we help them to liberate themselves from a kind of energy exchange that has been going on for centuries.  However, before we can do this for others, we must do it for ourselves.

Credit goes to Mike George for bringing much of this to my attention in one of his many books on Meditation and Consciousness.  Thank you Brother Mike for your clarity!

The 8 Spiritual Powers of the Soul

Check yourself for any  limiting, subconscious beliefs such as: spiritual mastery is reserved for the fortunate few who are mystics, saints, and sages, or other “advanced” “religious” beings?

How to Know and Use Your Subtle Powers

exotic flowerThere are 2 subtle powers within every human soul which contain the secret to success in life.  On the basis of your understanding of these two powers, your  life will move forward.  These powers cannot be measured by material instruments for they are powers that exist within the invisible, spiritual dimension of the soul.

The 2 subtle powers essential to success are the mind and the intellect which is also understood as inner knowing or conscience.

Let’s take a  look at the present condition of both the mind and the intellect: as to what their respective functions are, how they differ, and how they can work closely together to create self-mastery, peace, and contentment.

Taking up the subject of mind first – you may already realize the present condition of the mind is problematic. We have all experienced when all you wish for is to unwind, relax, and to have a little ‘peace of mind’ how the mind is anything but cooperative.  Some practices even suggest “killing the mind”.

What will be suggested here is a far cry from killing the mind! Instead let’s approach the mind  to discover how it functions best, for then there is the opportunity for both cooperation and success.  What many do not realize is that the mind is a tool of the soul.  It is not separate from the soul, its job is to assist the soul’s expression as a generator of thoughts and ideas!

So, if the mind’s main function is to continuously generate thoughts….then is it doing its job in the best way it possibly can* Unfortunately not,  for in these days of information overload and TMI … (too much information), scientists have found that the mind is generating twice as many thoughts every day, then it used to.  To make matters worse, most of these thoughts are repetitive and not even in our field of awareness!  No wonder at the end of a day, we often feel exhausted mentally.

The mind is also where emotions, desires, and sensations pop up.

What is missing from this job description of the mind is that there seems to be no system for the numbers of thoughts created and worse yet, seemingly, no quality control either!

Several years ago, scientists reported that on average, the human mind was generating 30,000 thoughts a day. Today, however, that has increased to 70,000 thoughts a day.  This more than doubling effect is due to the fact that the speed of life is increasing and the amount of information to be process ed has also increased and continues to increase. In a relaxed mind there are approximately 25 thoughts per minute; when the mind is anxious this can increase to 50 to 60 thoughts per minute.  This speed of thoughts causes the mind and the body to weaken.

It is the weakness of the mind that creates problems… and conversely, the power possible in the mind that creates solutions.

So what is the mechanism to turn this problem around** By what means can we guide the mind to produce energy by consistently generating pure, positive, and powerful thoughts**. Truly, the impact of the enormous power of positive thought has not been fully understood, even though psychology alludes to the power of positive thinking.  Once you learn the secret to guiding the mind, embedded in the soul, you will see how even one pure, powerful thought can perform great wonders.  What is needed to guide the mind is a strong intellect, the second subtle power of the soul.   The intellect is the wise place in the soul – the part of us that knows. It is also the part that in our modern times, has taken a back seat to the mind, which has become so loud. It is time to turn our attention to strengthening the authority of the inner intellect which can serve the mind as the mother holding the hand of her child to keep them both safe.

The mind has become so loud due to trying to operate in a vacuum without holding the hand of the intellect.  No one is to blame. This is due to the law of entropy which states that over time a mechanism just gets worn down and stops functioning as it did when it was in its original state.

Once the knowledge is given, this malfunctioning between the mind and the intellect can be repaired. So let us understand this part of the soul called the intellect  and its importance to our success in meditation and in life.  The intellect is the part of you that has the wisdom to discern and to decide.  These two powers are not contained in the mind.  The mind generates thoughts but does not have the role to discern or to choose.  It is the role of the intellect to guide the mind to which thoughts to contemplate, which to act on, and which thoughts to let go of. The intellect is the mind’s quality control response.  The intellect is able to discriminate between the real truth and the apparent truth, between things of temporary value and those of eternal value, and between the superficial and the subtle.

When you contemplate upon a true statement of thought with determined concentration, you create energy, awareness, and ultimately success.  You can even create a boundary of pure thoughts for others by thinking positive thoughts about them.  This works like a blessing. For if someone is a little weak, this boundary will become like a canopy of protection for that soul; it will become a means of safety or a fortress.  To create a powerful atmosphere through the spiritual vibrations of your thoughts is a very elevated form of service or karma yoga.power of words

When you think negatively, your mind is weakened and continues to lose power.  Even the body is affected and gets tired and even ill.  Most of us have experienced that if we become angry, the mind becomes extremely tired and the power of concentration is lost.  These are the pitfalls of a mind creating too many low quality thoughts distanced from its ‘mother’ the intellect.

Fast forward to today,  reflect upon the discriminating power and overall condition of the intellect of most souls. You will begin to understand how the intellect’s still, small voice has been ignored by the mind, for quite some time causing the  intellect  to withdraw, take a back seat, and leave the mind to its own devices.

Fact of life, most minds have been left without access to the wisdom and discernment power contained within the intellect.  Once this is recognized, you can begin remedying the situation.

A healthy, strong intellect is meant to guide, direct, and nourish the mind with elevated true thoughts. Since the wisdom of the intellect has been accumulated through experience and experimentation it adds great value to the mind, which lacks true discernment. Quite often, the wisdom of the intellect has come purely as a divine gift.   The wise intellect can heal the mind of obsessive compulsive thoughts, recurring negative thoughts, and untrue, unruly, and excessive thinking.  Therefore, it is very important to restore and strengthen the valuable connection between the mind and the intellect.

Meditation done with the awareness of the intellect’s ability to guide the mind is a way to heal this relationship between the mind and the intellect.

Science, psychologists and doctors, for the most part, have not been able to differentiate between the mind and intellect.  As you become more spiritually aware of yourself as a soul living in the body, the brain can be seen as a physical mechanism, like a computer, which the mind and intellect operate.  As you energize and empower your mind and intellect, they will in turn strengthen and re-energize your brain.  This will increase your overall power of concentration and well-being.

Raja Yoga meditation is a powerful, effective, and ancient method  which helps to slow down thoughts from a whopping 50 a minute to a manageable 10 a minute.  What many people who attempt to use meditation for stress reduction don’t realize is that it is not necessary to try to stop thinking; however, it is important for the intellect to select and feed the mind elevating,  truthful, and eternal thoughts!

Through Raja Yoga Meditation, not only is the mind controlled, but the intellect is developed and elevated.  As the intellect is used to assess thoughts, your faculty to understand deepens and your intuition becomes unshakable. Truth is nectar to the soul, for the soul thrives on deep knowledge, understanding, and awareness. Falsehood often comes disguised as truth to test your level of progress.

As the soul awakens, it comes to realize that it is up to I, the soul, to direct and discipline the mind.  As the intellect realizes it is powerful, it becomes sensitive to truth and very selective as to what it fills itself with.

With the awakening of the intellect, its power and abilities are further activated by understanding this knowledge:

I am not the body,

I am a  non-physical, eternal being of light,

I am the focus of powerful energy, within the body.

I am sovereign over the physical senses and desires of the body,

I am able to choose only those thoughts that will lead me to experience permanent happiness and contentment, instead of resorting to fleeting fixes.

Now I know that it is possible to allow only pure thoughts to pass into action.

With time, awareness, and practice, I become able to reach a state in which my every thought is peaceful and deliberate, rather than tense and anxious.

Lotus message if we master our thoughts, we master our lives

With my intellect awake, and each thought being evaluated before mistakes occur, I am able to achieve actual changes in my life that were impossible before.

During deep Raja Yoga meditation, the mind is soothed, slowed down, and nourished with truth.  This increases the strength and accuracy of the mind.  As your thoughts slow down, and you contemplate upon inner  peace, you will come to the wonderful realization that your natural and original state is peaceful.

You don’t always have to sit for Raja Yoga Meditation.  You can also practice keeping your mind peaceful while moving around. You will come to know a natural state of peace in action.

Experiment with this by feeding the mind peaceful thoughts while going through your day.

Start with your very first thoughts in the morning.  Feed wise, true thoughts from your intellect to your mind, such as I am a peaceful soul, I am a beloved child of God.  This can slow down the speed of your thinking.  Continue to emerge these wise and beautiful thoughts at least 5 times throughout the day.  The ‘storms of ordinary, negative, and debilitating thoughts’ in the mind will dissipate and eventually finish. Instead, you will feel overflowing love and stability begin to heal your body and mind, as well as your relationships.

Here is an example of a stream of thoughts to focus your mind and intellect upon.  Bring your awareness to the center of your forehead, the seat of the soul within the body, an  remind yourself who you are:

I am a sparkling point of light, like a star…I am peaceful… Peace is my true nature…through me the vibrations of peace are spreading out…I radiate peace all around me…

I am a loving soul…I am filled with a lot of love…I am a pure being…a child of the universe,  a child of God…I am floating in an Ocean of Love…The Supreme Being who is the Bestower of Happiness is showering me with Divine Love…

That One is also the Ocean of Peace…I am the child of the Ocean of Peace, I am being filled with Peace …my life is a precious gift from God.. I am emerging happiness and bliss. I am in super-sensuous joy.  I am a child of God.  God is mine…I belong to God…and God belongs to me…

I am a child of God

Knowing that you are an unlimited soul makes all the difference in how you think, act, speak, and feel.  It becomes easy to be naturally happy and content every day.

This is a major paradigm shift…the shift that transforms life,  your life and the lives of others.  This is the paradigm shift that transforms our world.

Remember you are a soul whose natural state is one of peace.  You are a peaceful soul.

Easy Raja Yoga Meditation gets you back in touch with your inner state of peace and your inner power.

Wait, Maybe the Answer is Looking for You? (part 2)

I promised to write an answer, a sequel to the piece called “Wait, Maybe the Answer is Looking for You?”.  An answer which addresses the plight of the soul today.

I am very excited about writing and sharing answers to soul questions and yet, this morning, instead of sitting down and getting right into the article I promised you, I felt unfocused and distracted.

Enter stage right:  EGO, Maya, distraction,  a trip to the post  office, a meander around Facebook, tidying up my desk, sore muscles from yesterday’s work out.  All, seemingly keeping me away from doing what I really wanted to do, which was to keep my promise and write the post!

However, ‘do not despair’ I heard my Self say, for as always, the deeper Self was busy preparing me to present you with something very special!  Apparently, the whole day was an incubation period for what I would finally share.

True to its title~What if  the Answer is Looking for You? (part 2),   I am delighted to share with you what I found, or rather what found me!  It  is a piece of writing that came into my possession over 15 years ago, written by my son, Jesse.  I had planned to mail it to him with the package I sent him; but first I wanted to read it.  Much to my surprise and delight, I found that he was writing about the journey of the soul! As he listened from deep inside, past the babbling of the mind and beyond the chatter and clatter of the world, his soul shone through~

He wrote this piece when he was twenty-something, in the language of the soul~ poetic, vivid, peaceful, and clear.  Through it, peace finds him and presents a solution for the plight of ‘the patient soul’.

I share it with you, to beckon you closer to your inner world of peace.

And so, I present to you, my first guest blogger~Jesse D’Alessio~ poet laureate of my heart!

“Waking up in a hotel, after a long day of travel, I awoke to peace of mind, tranquility, and focus.

I heard my Self say: Peace of Mind, Tranquility, and Focus.

And so I took a deep breath,                                                                                            Relaxed my shoulders and straightened my spine, and

With both feet planted firmly on the ground, I began to follow the flow that was coursing through my veins.

Life is here and now,                                                                                                              Vivid and fresh,                                                                                                                      Made to be taken and loved and felt.

This is your experience, this is your time, now is the foreseen moment.                    This is your time to experience the physical body,                                                              To experience the physical dimension.                                                                                For when I speak of you,                                                                                                              I am speaking of all of you.

What is more central to your existence than your Soul?                                               Your Soul is your core, your base and your foundation.                                                                It is everything you have been and                                                                      Is where everything you learn in this life will be remembered.

How often we forget our patient souls.                                                                          Caught up in the mental and the physical,                                                                            We spend hours listening to the elevator music of our restless minds.

True tranquility and relaxation cannot be approached                                                 Until the incessant babbling of the mind is allowed to finish                                  Allowed to finish, or asked to stop.

I once read that we have several aspects to our minds.                                                   The most obvious is the active mind,                                                                                  The mind that thinks and plans and calculates.                                                            This is the mind that is closest to the front and the first we consult.   This outermost mind is a dynamic, creative entity that spends countless                             Hours processing, interpreting, and                                                       Feeling all of the stimulation of our daily lives.                                                            Sights and sounds, smells and sensations, language and music.

This outermost mind is most active when we access it.                                          However, when we are no longer using it,                                                                  Perhaps absorbed by a rhythmic, monotonous task                                                           Or while sitting still, a second mind emerges.                                                     This is that mind that starts you singing the last song you heard on the radio             Or that repeats to itself the last advertising jingle you picked up.

How many times have you heard this second mind,                                                  Suddenly say to itself: Nabisco, ding?                                                                                      Or some other equally pointless melody devised by advertising companies to entertain your second mind?

How often have you desired to sit still and contemplate?                                                  To simply be silent,                                                                                                                  Only to hear a song playing over and over,                                                                   Behind the now silenced active mind?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Moving past this second mind,                                                                                              This second barrier                                                                            Is essential if we wish to access the deeper core of our being.

The human brain is stronger than any computer ever created by man.                                            The memory,                                                                                                                      The power of memorization,                                                                                          The mother board of our psyche                                                                                     Is a truly awesome, mystifying force.

Such complexity to the human brain.                                                                                  Yet still much further into the depths of you,                                                              Lies You, the ever present Soul.                                                                                              The core of your existence,                                                                                                    The most ‘you’ part of you.                                                                              For it is the soul that will live on when your physical body ceases to move.        When the atoms of your physical self are reunited with those of the earth,                          It is your soul that will be continuing the journey.

If you should succeed to be 100 years old,                                                                                You might feel that you had lived a full, long life,                                                             But how many hundreds or thousands of years will the soul live?                                    How much more constant, eternal is your soul?                                                                 You, the soul is the part of you that will go on and on.

Still we are distracted by the physical body.                                                                              We are preoccupied by the second mind,                                                                       Which is shielding us from our subconscious.

And how much more profound than our subconscious is the Living Soul?              Peace, Tranquility, and Focus                                                                                                 The Realms of the Soul.

Let us not put the body and mind on autopilot                                                               Only to wander the earth adrift.                                                                                                Let us live for the soul, with the mind and through the body.                                     A triplicity of spirit, mind, and body, combined…                                                           Interlocked and interwoven.

Such a wonder,                                                                                                                                Such an ingenious design.                                                                                                            Such a gift is life,                                                                                                                          That it might be lived to the fullest.                                                                                            Spirit, mind, and body.                                                                                                            Triplicity in One.

To Drink from the Well of Peace

In the practice of Raja Yoga Meditation, one method to connect with your inner peace is through the thought ‘Om Shanti’.  These 2 words point to the awareness of our eternal state of peace and our true spiritual identity.  By thinking or saying Om Shanti you are claiming your natural state of peace to emerge.

In Sanskrit, Shanti means ‘peace’ and Om means ‘I am the soul’.   Together they affirm that I am a peaceful soul.

As you accept Om Shanti as a reality and focus upon it, your power of peace and serenity manifests as a powerful vibration bringing your true nature of peace to the surface of your life and you become a wonderful force of peace in the world around you.

It takes just a few seconds of concentration to connect with the soul-self and the current of peace and tranquility.  Practice for 10 to 20 seconds, as many times throughout the day as you wish, to establish and sustain the awareness of the peace which abides within you, the soul.  Your Om Shanti current will never fail to energize your peacefulness.  However, it must be practiced with complete attention.

What follows is a wonderful testimony from a young woman in her twenties, a first time participant in one of our Raja Yoga Meditation sessions.  “My first encounter with Raja Yoga Meditation at a Solstice Gathering on Kauai was simply wonderful.  It filled me with a sweet sense of light that uplifted and acknowledged my soul.  One of the most profound experiences of the evening was realizing how powerful it is to recognize and deeply connect to soul-consciousness.

The soul is our source of our existence.  I am deeply thankful for everyone who drinks from this well of light.”

Recognize and Claim the Inner Secrets of the Soul

                                     1st BENEFIT

Looking within through meditation allows you to see what’s going on below the surface, beyond the senses.  To see beyond 3-D reality, which is so full and often all-consuming, takes courage and determination, as well as a strong wish for peace.   Moving in this new direction of ‘turning inward’ to explore the unknown, to move in a way that departs from the ordinary, there must be a deep longing for stillness, for peace.

Entering into meditation is entering the inner world of you, the soul, the point of consciousness, the point of light in the center of the forehead.  As you become familiar with turning inward, you begin to identify with your true identity and it becomes easier to disengage from the limitations of the body and everything connected to it.

As this experience strengthens, it gives wings to the soul. Your intuition will become more powerful. Your inner resources, talents, values, and virtues become accessible in daily life. Your sense of spiritual power increases through meditation.

And you will come to know the first inner secret of the soul.

“WHAT IS THIS INNER SECRET OF THE SOUL?”

Dadi Janki, a living treasure of the Brahma Kumari World Spiritual University in Rajasthan, India , left her mortal coil a year ago on March 27, 2020 at the venerable age of 104.  Seventy-five years ago, she asked herself the question- What is the inner secret of the soul? What she came to know first hand and taught through her presence is that:

“EVERYONE DESIRES PEACE

BECAUSE THE INTRINSIC QUALITY OF THE SOUL IS PEACE.

THIS IS THE FIRST LESSON,

‘the first inner secret’~

EACH OF US IS A PEACEFUL SOUL…”

Peace is the very core of who we are.  It can be experienced again and again through meditation bringing one into a stable, constant awareness of peace as we navigate through an ever-changing world in an ever-changing body.

The Sanskrit words ‘Om Shanti’ mean: I am a peaceful soul. Feel the inner state of peace that comes from claiming (knowing) that I am a peaceful soul.

2nd Benefit

OM SHANTI, I am a Peaceful Soul is the beginning of opening up to the other secrets of the soul.                                                            FROM PEACE COME the FEELINGS of INNER LOVE,  AND FROM LOVE- FEELINGS OF INNER HAPPINESS WILL BUBBLE UP.

PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS BRING US INTO THE INNER SECRETS OF OUR SPIRITUAL POWER. FEELING OF PEACE, LOVE, AND HAPPINESS ARE THE BASIS OF GOOD MEDITATION. TO FEEL THEM AND THEN TO CARRY THEM INTO OUR LIVES IS TO MAKE MEDITATION PRACTICAL.”

(Dadi Janki-from: Spiritual Greatness)

The more we ‘see’ and know the self as a peaceful, loving, happy, and powerful soul, the more we enjoy meditation and the more the qualities of the soul flow into and inform our lives through our expression in relationship, creativity, emotions, and through well-being on all levels.
